Akon - Akon's Global Album

Akon's new album, 'Stadium', is influenced by the many styles of music he has been exposed to touring across the world.

Akon's new album is influenced by the many styles of music he has been exposed to touring the world.

The 'Sexy Chick' hitmaker drew influence from across the globe to produce 'Stadium' which sees his established hip hop sound mixed with dance beats and influences from as far afield as Japan and India.

The US rapper told MTV:"As you grow, you experience different things. You start travelling, you start collaborating with different people and you start experiencing life bigger.

"I was the type of artist that created my music based from my experience. And nothing has changed. I'm always in Europe, always in Asia, always in India, always in Japan, always in Africa, the U.K., France, and this is the kind of music that I'm exposed to."

Akon - who has Senegalese heritage - has also forged a strong working relationship with French DJ David Guetta, with the pair producing a number of tracks together - including Akon's next European single, 'Angel' - and the rapper praised the"energy"they create when they join forces.

He added:"I just do it to the best of my abilities, because I love how the energy flows, because I see it and how it makes people feel, how it turns the party out, how it blows the concerts out of the water and you're just like, 'This is it!'"

'Angel' is released on November 8 in the UK.

Lily Allen - Lily Allen And Jay Sean Given Bmi Awards

Lily Allen, Jay Sean and Sting all picked up accolades for their songwriting at the BMI Awards last night (05.10.10).

Lily Allen, Jay Sean and Sting all received songwriting awards last night (05.10.10).

The pop stars were all given awards for the amount of radio and TV play they have had in the US at the Broadcast Music International (BMI) awards, which honours songwriters.

Record company executives collected the trophies on behalf of most artists, although legendary music industry figures including The Beatles producer George Martin and lyricist Don Black were in attendance - and Don was named BMI Icon at the ceremony, for his services to songwriting.

After a film montage of his career, Don - most famous for writing the words to five James Bond themes and winning an Oscar for the theme to 'Born Free', as well as the lyrics to a number of musicals - collected the engraved cup-shaped award and gave an acceptance speech.

He quipped:"After Del's introduction I don't think anyone will have to Google me. And thanks for that bucket, I may well need it.

"My whole life changed, for me, when I was working in Demnark street, London, in the early days; and it's very appropriate to mention tonight, that the first song I plugged as a song plugger was 'Don't Laugh At Me' by the late, but certainly great, Norman Wisdom.

"I've worked with so many brilliant composers, I couldn't possibly mention them all - but I have to name John Barry and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who both played such an important part in my career."

Former M People singer Heather Small also attended to collect an award for her song 'Proud', which is the theme tune to reality series 'The Biggest Loser' in the US.

She told BANG Showbiz:"It's nice to be recognised. My award is for 'Proud', which is on 'The Biggest Loser', which may not sound great, but it's all about losing weight!

"I don't do so much now, but I'm going on tour with Lula and Anastacia in November later this year, which I'm looking forward to."

Over 50 trophies were given out over the evening, with the writers behind hits including Akon and David Guetta's 'Sexy Chick', Jay-Z and Rihanna's 'Run This Town' and Cascada's 'Evacuate the Dancefloor' collecting awards.

David Guetta - David Guetta's Creamfields Party

David Guetta, Leftfield, and Tiesto were among the acts delighting revellers at the Creamfields festival this weekend.

David Guetta dubbed Creamfields"the biggest party on the planet"during his headline set this weekend.

The 42-year-old French DJ headlined the famous dance music event on Saturday (28.08.10) and wowed the 60,000-strong crowd at Daresbury Estate in Chesire, North West England, with a stunning set boosted by pyrotechnic displays, smoke machines and even an LED robot.

Speaking afterwards, he said:"Creamfields was the first festival that booked me so it's very special for me.

"The energy was amazing, there was so much love. I was really moved."

While the Frenchman had been the obvious choice on who to see headline on the first day of the dance music festival, revellers were divided on how to close their weekend on Sunday (29.08.10).

Spectacular sets from dance pioneers Leftfield in the Cream tent and a constantly packed out Swedish House Mafia tent - which saw people turned away as so many were trying to see Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso - meant there was plenty to drag festivallers away from the main stage, but those who stayed were rewarded by a stunning performance from Tiesto.

Other performers over the weekend included 'Acceptable in the 80s' hitmaker Calvin Harris - performing what was rumoured to be his last show with a live band - up-and-coming US starlet Uffie, and house producer Deadmau5.

Rihanna - Rihanna To Guetta New Sound

Rihanna is planning to record a song for her next album with French dance producer David Guetta.

Rihanna is planning to record a song with DJ David Guetta.

The 'Hard' singer has approached the French dance producer - who has been behind several hits including Flo Rida's 'Club Can't Handle Me' and Black Eyed Peas 'I Gotta Feelin' - to work on a track for her next album.

Speaking at this year's Virgin Media V Festival in Staffordshire, UK - where he headlined the 4 Music stage - David said:"I am talking to Rihanna about doing a song, but nothing is confirmed."

He added he plans to develop a new sound for his next album to be released under his own name, adding:"Right now I'm planning to come back with a new sound for my next album, which will come out in Summer next year."

Although he initially made his name as a DJ, David talked about how his influences extend far beyond dance music, and how disappointed he was his set clashed with the Kings Of Leon playing on the main stage.

He added to the Daily Star newspaper:"I might make dance music, but that doesn't mean I'm not influenced by bands like Kings of Leon and Coldplay.

"I'm such a fan of the Kings and would've loved to have seen their performance."

David Guetta - David Guetta Doesn't Need Band

David Guetta admits he faces a huge battle with his record label as they want him to play with a band, something he doesn't want to do.

David Guetta refuses to play alongside a band.

The superstar DJ is battling with his record label because bosses want him to ditch his decks and perform with live musicians at his concerts, despite it being something he isn't interested in.

He said:"My record company has been suggesting I play with a band for years, but that's not me. I refuse. I'm a DJ. I've been fighting to say DJs can be real artists for 20 years.

"Now that I'm successful I'm not going to stop being a DJ so that I can turn into a pop star. I'm happy there is a DJ crossing over like I am and I hope it opens doors. But for me it's not about changing the way I perform or to change my life."

The Frenchman - who is headliningat the Creamfields festival, which takes place in Warrington, northern England, from August 28 to 29 - believes a lot of his success is down to changing people's perceptions of music in America.

He added to the Daily Star newspaper:"In America they would not play dance music on the radio before. It was waiting to explode. When I used to play clubs in America I would invite artists to come and see me and they would say, 'Oh my God, I had no idea this was going on.'

"It was born in America but raised in Europe."

David Guetta - Guetta Refuses To Join Band

French DJ DAVID GUETTA is fighting with executives at his record label over their plans to place him in a band.

The Grammy winner has found global fame with his catchy dance music, and shot to the top of the charts collaborating with artists including Madonna, Akon and Kelly Rowland.

Despite his success, record label bosses are still trying to convince him to recruit a band he can play live with at his concerts - but he insists he'll always be a solo act.

He tells Britain's Daily Star,"My record company has been suggesting I play with a band for years, but that's not me. I refuse.

Kelly Rowland - Kelly Rowland Denies Destiny Rumours

Singer Kelly Rowland has hit back at claims Destiny's Child will not reunite saying she and her band mates will decide their future.

Kelly Rowland has dismissed claims there will never be a Destiny's Child reunion.

The 'Dilemma' singer who has had solo chart success away from the group, has retaliated to claims made by Matthew Knowles - the group's manager - that they will never reunite.

Speaking to Perez Hilton, Kelly explained:"Well Matthew Knowles is not a member of Destiny's child so with all due respect that's not a decision he can make - that's up to myself, Beyonce and Michelle."

Kelly also promised Perez her new album would be"more varied."

She said:"I wanted to make sure I had a proper balance, 'cause I couldn't forgot about the R'n'B and Urban side - Destiny Child and early Kelly Rowland projects, but when I experience dance music was like nothing else - and it was very natural."

Last week, Matthew, who is also father of Beyonce Knowles told Entertainment Tonight:"Contrary to rumours online of a Destiny's Child reunion, there are no plans for the group to reunite for a performance or album - the rumours are false."

The band went their separate ways in 2006 and since then lead singer Beyonce has gone onto to have three solo albums and appeared in numerous films including 'Austin Powers: Gold Member'. Michelle Williams has also recorded solo albums and appeared in the West End musical of Chicago.

Kelly worked with rapper Nelly and most recently DJ David Guetta for her dance single 'Commander.'

Tinie Tempah - Tinie Tempah Leads Uma Nominations

Tinie Tempah leads the way at this year's Urban Music Awards, picking up four nominations including Best Newcomer and Best Music Video.

Newcomer Tinie Tempah has received a record four nominations at this year's Urban Music Awards.

The London rapper has been nominated for Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration for his single 'Pass Out', Best HipHop Act and Best Music Video for his single 'Frisky.'

Tinie, who burst into the music scene earlier this year with his UK number one single 'Pass Out', said:"I am extremely excited to be nominated for this year. It's like a dream come true. The Urban Music Awards has always been the breaking ground for artists worldwide and I have always wanted to be at the UMA's. Thanks to all the fans who nominated me and I can't wait till the show in September."

Former 'X Factor' rivals, Alexandra Burke and JLS will battle it out in the Best Album category, while Rihanna and The Black Eyed Peas have both been nominated for Best International Act.

This year will be the eighth Urban Music Awards ceremony and all nominations are voted for by music fans.

Jordan Kensington, Founder of Urban Music Awards said:"In 1999, it was a hard task convincing sponsors, media, and labels and booking agents to showcase UK urban music. There was virtually no other awards show prepared to support UK urban artists. All awards shows had a more US biased agenda. We risked it all on the belief that if everybody fails to see the quality of our acts, we would work our hardest to make sure the scene got the recognition it deserves and now it's finally paid off."

The Urban Music Awards will be held on September 18th.

Kelly Rowland - David Guetta Made Kelly Rowland Cry

Kelly Rowland has admitted she cried the first time she heard 'When Love Takes Over', as she immediately knew she wanted to collaborate with dance legend David Guetta.

Kelly Rowland says hearing 'When Love Takes Over' for the first time brought tears to her eyes.

The former Destiny's Child star - who scored a number one hit with the house tune alongside iconic DJ David Guetta - revealed the first time she heard the instrumental version of the track at a nightclub in the South of France, she was so overcome with emotion that she knew she wanted to be a part of it.

She said:"It brought tears to my eyes! After that I asked him if I could have the track and I brought it with me to London. The next thing I knew, I wrote a song to it and I sent it back to him and the next thing, it was history."

The 'Commander' hitmaker - who has dabbled in a range of genres since embarking upon her solo career in 2002 - admitted the best thing about finding her niche in dance music is seeing people's reaction to her tracks.

She told Britain's The Independent newspaper:"It started with travelling with David and getting a chance to see people's emotional reaction to the music. That completely made me intoxicated!

"When people want to stand on each other's shoulders and go crazy and they're sweating and they're having a good time, that's all that counts.

"You feel so much love in the crowd! It's such a good feeling, and that's what I want my music to do."

David Guetta - Guetta Fears Madonna Collaboration Will Never Be Released

DAVID GUETTA fears his recent collaboration with MADONNA will never be made available for fans - because of the superstar's record contract wrangles.

The French DJ teamed up with the Queen of Pop to record a new song after she specifically requested to work with him following his chart success with Kelly Rowland and Akon.

But Guetta is worried the track will never be released as Madonna's record contract with Warner Bros. has expired - and even if she negotiates a new deal with another company, her previous label will hold the rights to the song.

He tells Britain's The Guardian,"It's a tricky situation, because she's now out of a record deal. We don't even know what's going to happen with it. It's a huge record, so it's really frustrating.

"The track is part of the Warner deal, but it's not on the album, so why would they invest any money in it? I was really unlucky with that one."

Madonna recently opened up about her expired record deal, insisting she is concentrating on her career as a film director now and has no idea whether she will sign another music contract.

She said,"I don't have a record deal right now with anybody. I don't know how I'm going to get my music out the next time I make a record. I'm going to have to reinvent the wheel."

David Guetta - David Guetta And Madonna's Duet Problems

David Guetta duets with Madonna on track that may never been released due to money and management problems

David Guetta and Madonna have recorded a"huge"track together but it may never be released.

The DJ worked on a song with the Queen of Pop but it's believed the single will never be aired or released due to money problems within her management.

The 'Love is Gone' star explained:"It's a tricky situation, because she's now out of a record deal. We don't even know what's going to happen with it. It's a huge record, so it's really frustrating. The track is part of the Warner deal, but it's not on the album, so why would they invest any money in it? I was really unlucky with that one."

David also revealed that the US wanted him to change his sound before working with some of their artists.

He told the Guardian newspaper:"When I recorded 'Sexy B**ch' with Akon, his label said, 'You're going to have to adapt yourself to the American market. What we've done won't work in the US because of the style of the beat.' I told them they were wrong."

David has previously worked with Kelly Rowland, Kelis and more recently Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas. Their single 'Getting Over You' was released in the UK this week and received a million hits in 48 hours on YouTube.
